The club treated the 100 residents of TAFTA On Ridge retirement home to braaied beef or chicken burgers on Heritage Day. This rare treat was extremely well received – many of the residents thanked the club for the best meal they’ve had all year. The club has provided a braai for three years in a row now and it is always regarded as a definite highlight for the residents.

Nedbank provided the club with many high quality double blankets and asked it to donate them to needy recipients on their behalf. The club donated 44 of the blankets to the Salvation Army’s Thembela home in Durban where they were gratefully received by the residents.
On Saturday 5 April, the North Durban Lions played bingo with many of the residents of the TAFTA On Ridge old age home. The residents had a really fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Several rounds of bingo were organised so that many residents could have a chance to win a prize. The club also supplied cake to go with each resident’s tea, ensuring that the frail-care residents got some cake as well. Some photos of the very enjoyable service project:
The North Durban Lions Club supplied a braai for the 120 residents of TAFTA on Ridge, supplying beef and chicken burgers and salads. The residents really enjoyed it, with several saying it was the best meal they had had in more than 5 years. It was very rewarding to see the great joy a simple braai brought to the home.
The club regularly assists the Bill Buchanan Home for the Aged in their fundraising, particularly through sponsoring a Fish and Chips Evening. Another such evening was sponsored in May: residents of the home purchased tickets for an evening of entertainment and a meal of fish and chips.
The club paid for fish, chips and mushy peas, which were cooked by the kitchen at Bill Buchanan, and also provided ice cream cones for dessert. The club also paid for the entertainer, Dave, whom Bill Buchanan has a long-standing relationship with. Many members of the club were also on hand on the evening to serve the fish and chips and clean up afterwards. The income from the tickets also goes straight to the home.
An event like this is greatly enjoyed by the residents of the home, and the North Durban Lions are very proud to be able to provide it, and to assist the home in their fundraising efforts.
