Induction Evening
The club held its annual presidential induction dinner on Saturday 25 July at its clubhouse. This is always a formal event and as usual, was greatly enjoyed by all who attended.
Lion Wendy Ferguson was inducted into the club by the club’s guest for the evening, Lion Tricia Smith.
LP Ian presented a report on his excellent year in charge, highlighting the many projects we have run and the enormous amount of work the club did for those in need.
LP Ian handed out several awards and certificates of appreciation to many members who worked so hard during the year.
Lion Kay Erskine received a membership key award from Lions Clubs International in recognition of the 10 new Lions Kay has sponsored. Lion Denise Bolland received a similar award for sponsoring 3 new members.
Lion Vicki van Wyk was the deserved recipient of the North Durban Lions Lion of the Year award for her dedicated work as the club secretary and her support at almost every activity the club undertook.
Lion Tricia inducted Lion Kim van Wyk as the 44th president of the North Durban Lions club. LP Kim presented his board and plans for the year to the club. He paid special tribute to Lion Ian’s excellent leadership during the past year. Lion Ian had explicitly asked not to be given a plaque commemorating his year as president (he has one from a previous stint as club president) so the club presented him instead with a certificate to mark his outstanding service and a hamper of goodies.

Presentation Evening
DG Debbie Berry visited the club at our February meeting on 24 February. Instead of holding a regular meeting, the club decided to instead have a presentation evening to thank individuals and organisations who have helped the club serve the community. Several awards were also made. Our new member Nick was inducted by DG Debbie.
A certificate of thanks was presented to Lauren Anthony of the Northgen News, to thank the paper for promoting our fundraising and service events.
A certificate of thanks was also presented to Lauren Glossop, the Audiologist who has assisted the club’s hearing projects by donating large amounts of time and free services:

A cheque for R10000 was presented to the SA Guide Dog Association from the funds raised at our recent Carols event to assist in providing a guide dog to a blind recipient. Di Turner of the Guide Dogs Association was on hand to receive the cheque from Lion Maria Stowe, who convened and ran the Carols:

DG Debbie inducted Lion Malcolm “Nick” Nicholas into the club. Some more photos of the induction are included in the gallery at the end of this post:

DG Debbie received the club’s banner from LP Ian, and presented one of her banners in return. DG Debbie then spoke on a number of topics to do with Lionism, including the importance of membership growth and the service we do, and commended the club for its successes.
The evening concluded with awards for several Lions: Lions Maria Stowe and Trevor Hobbs were presented with Membership Keys to acknowledge that each had sponsored two new Lions.A 25 Year Monarch Chevron was presented to Lion Trevor in recognition of his 25 years of service as a Lion.
DG Debbie also handed over a very special award to Lion Trevor Hobbs, who was made a Melvin Jones Fellow by the club. This was a complete surprise to Lion Trevor, and richly deserved for his more than 25 years of dedicated and extremely selfless service to Lions:

2010/2011 Induction Evening
On 10 July 2010, the club held its Induction Evening for the 2010/2011 Lionistic year. This is traditionally a formal dinner evening. To celebrate the 2010World Cup, the clubhouse was decorated in a football theme.
The outgoing president, Dave Evans gave a short speech listing some of the highlights of his successful year in office and thanking all the club members for their hard work over the year. Dave handed out several awards, and named Lion Phil Meyer as the Lion of the Year. A plaque of appreciation from the club was presented to Dave by the Immediate Past President Denise Bolland to thank him for his efforts over the year.
Two new members were inducted into the club by Past District Governor Stan Foley – Lions Dionne Falt and Robert Henning were sponsored by Lions Kay Erskine and Phil Meyer.
PDG Stan also inducted the president for the 2010/2011 Lionistic year, Lion Ian Ping. Lion Ian also gave a short speech, thanking the club for putting their faith in him and laying out his plans for the year ahead.

New Member Induction
On 11 September 2009 4 new members were inducted into the club by Past Council Chairman Dave Morley at the clubs’ clubhouse. Lions Rita Burt, Sandra Monaghan and Margo Whitmore were sponsored by Lion Kay Erskine and Lion Phoella Walker was sponsored by Lion Trevor Hobbs. Like all inductions of new members it was a special event to celebrate the new members’ entry into the club. Some photos of the evening are below:
