Recognition for Club Members at the 2018 District Midyear Conference

8 club members attended the 2018 District 410C Midyear Conference, the last Midyear Conference the District will hold before it merges with District 410B and part of District 410D to form a new District, 410E.

The Midyear was excellent on all fronts – the Conference was well-run and informative and the theme evening was one of the best events the District has hosted for many years.

Lion President Avril Hobbs was the worthy recipient of a certificate of appreciation from the International Lions President Gudrun Yngvadottir in recognition of her sterling and tireless work as the District’s Global Service Team Coordinator, assisting every club and Lion to serve people in need as effectively as possible. Very few of the 1.5 million Lions around the world are honoured with recognition from the International President and the club is justly proud of LP Avril’s efforts.

The club also received the Ian Murray Project Public Relations award, presented to the club that achieves the best media coverage for a specific project. This award is the result of constant social and traditional media engagement by members of the club, whose efforts are greatly appreciated.

Lion Grant Hobbs donned the District’s Melvin the Lion suit and made a great impact, demonstrating Melvin’s skill at the Baby Shark Challenge. Here’s Melvin doing the challenge:

DG Lyn Botha presented Melvin (and Lion Grant) a certificate of thanks for making an appearance at the conference:

The club celebrated the induction of Lion President Vicki van Wyk as the club’s 49th president at a formal dinner held at the club’s clubhouse on 11 July 2015.  The club was also delighted to induct and welcome Elaine Turton and Avril Hobbs as new members at the same evening. 26 guests from other Lions clubs and friends of the club joined the members for a lovely and special evening.

In keeping with new Lions International President Dr Jitsuhiro Yamada’s theme for the year, the table decor included more than 60 colourful folded paper cranes.

Outgoing Lion President Trevor Hobbs spoke on the excellent year of service the club had completed and presented several awards, including awarding Lion Phil Meyer as the 2014/2015 Lion of the Year.

6 members of the East Coast Lions club were present on the evening and they presented the club with a much needed replacement microwave.

LP Vicki opened her year of leadership by introducing her theme and plans for the year, built around being “keys of service”.
