The North Durban Lions Club put on a party for the boarders at the Golden Hours School for intellectually disabled children. Several of the club’s members were joined by some of the friends of the club, who regularly take part in the club’s projects and LP Vanessa Wilesmith of the Durban South Lions club. As the project was 2 days after Mandela Day, the club’s friends and members were encouraged to consider it as a Mandela Day contribution. The kids made and decorated their own face masks and iced marie biscuits. They also enjoyed rides in the trailer of the club’s tractor. As a special treat, Melvin was on hand to greet and play with the kids and was a great hit. The project was a huge success and brought so much joy to the kids that many of the Lions and friends were close to tears.
