On 28 July 2018 club members spent a busy Saturday morning selling popcorn and candyfloss at the Glenashley Junior Primary school fun day. The club has been involved in the fun day for many years and splits all profits with the school. As with all Lions fundraising, the club’s share is used entirely to serve people in need and the club is happy that the school also benefits from the club members’ efforts.

The Quilters-by-the-Sea quilting group donated a magnificent king-size quilt to the club to raffle off as a fundraiser. Quilters-by-the-Sea have met at the North Durban Lions clubhouse for several years and work on a beautiful quilt for the club to raffle every year. This year’s raffle was drawn on 24 July 2018 and was won by Mrs Maureen Abbs, who was delighted with her wonderful prize.
The North Durban Lions are very grateful to the Quilters-by-the-Sea for their continued generosity in providing a quilt every year – funds are raised that will allow the club to serve many people in need throughout the year.
The club was invited by the KZN Chapter of the SA Koi Keepers Society to man the gate for their annual koi show, held on 21-22 July 2018 at the Shongweni Club. The club has performed this service for the past 6 years and receives a generous donation from the KZN Koi Society for their efforts, which is completely used to serve people in need – as with all Lions fundraising work 100% of the proceeds go to serve the needy.
The club is very grateful to the KZN Koi Society for their continued support and looks forward to a continued association with them.
The club celebrated the re-induction of Lion President Avril Hobbs for a second year of dedicated and inspirational leadership. The annual presidential induction dinner was celebrated at the club’s clubhouse on 21 July 2018. LP Avril spoke about the highlights from the 2017/18 Lionistic year and presented a number of awards, including the “Lion of the Year” to Lion Bill Pfaff for his excellent work throughout the year on the club’s low-cost spectacle and vision screening projects, conducted with the generous and selfless support of Manuela Diener of EyeSA Optometry
The club was also delighted to welcome its youngest-ever member, Grant Hobbs, the son of Lions Trevor and Avril Hobbs.
Club members rededicated themselves for the coming year of service to their community and were inspired as LP Avril laid out her vision and plans for the 2018/19 Lionistic year.
