North Durban Lions named the 2010/2011 Lions Club of the Year in District 410C
At the recent Lions District 410C Midyear Conference, a number of awards were made to clubs for their efforts in the 2010/2011 Lionistic year (the Lionistic year runs from July to June). The North Durban Lions club are delighted and proud to announce that the club won several awards for the 2010/2011 year, when we were extremely ably led by Immediate Past President Ian Ping:
PADDY MCMENEMY HEARING AWARD: This award is given to the club which has conducted the most outstanding hearing related project during the 2010/2011 year. The North Durban Lions were awarded this award due in large part to the fine and non-stop efforts of Lion Jackie Henning. DISTRICT ENVIRONMENTAL PHOTO CONTEST: District Chairperson Denise Bolland won first prize in the “Weather Phenomenon” category in this competition, while District Cabinet Secretary Vicki van Wyk won first prize in the “Plant Life” category. Both of them also placed amongst the top-three in the other categories as well.
GEOFF CHETTLE CLUB SECRETARY AWARD: This award is judged based on the administration of a Lions club – regular and timeous completion and submission of meeting minutes, submission of Monthly Membership Reports, Activity Reports and club officer reporting forms in good time to the District, attendance at Zone and District events as the secretary and responsiveness to requests for information from the District. District Cabinet Secretary Vicki van Wyk was the deserved winner of this award – The North Durban Lions club is very proud of her achievement and believe the quality of her work as the club secretary has been justly rewarded.
LIONS CLUB OF THE YEAR: This highly prestigious award is judged on a large set of objective criteria, covering all aspects of a Lions club’s activities: administrative duties, a high percentage of members at monthly meetings, attendance at District and Zone events, membership retention and growth, the forming of new clubs and branches, timeous payment of dues, involvement in a variety of projects, PRO activities, online presence and donations to the Melvin Jones and Louis Halse funds. As can be seen, to win this award requires the efforts of the entire club, and we as the North Durban Lions are extremely proud of this achievement under Immediate Past President Ian Ping’s exemplary leadership.

The club would like to thank the Rotary Club of Durban Umgeni for coming to the meeting and sharing your successful history with us. May you continue to serve your communities from strength to strength.
