A Successful Pick ‘n Pay Hypermarket Charity Fair

As mentioned earlier here, the North Durban Lions organised a Charity Fair for the Pick ‘n Pay Hypermarket on 24 September. The day went extremely well, as some 22 charities were given a platform to showcase their work, engage with the public, and in many cases, raise funds. The club’s grateful appreciation must go to Sunshine bakery, who sold loaves of bread at cost, and donated all of the proceeds.

A draw was also made for one of the charities to win the collective pool of small entrance fees which the various charities paid to take part in the Fair. Childline were the delighted winners of the raffle.

The North Durban Lions club was honoured to be entrusted with the organisation of the event by the Pick ‘n Pay Hypermarket. We are proud to have been able to assist so many charities and the people and causes they support by working with our good friends at the Hypermarket.

Pick ‘n Pay Hypermarket Charity Fair

The North Durban Lions Club is organising a Charity Fair for the Pick n Pay Hypermarket on 24 September. Many charitable organisations will have stalls at the fair, selling their goods and/or promoting their charitable work. Food stalls and entertainment will be plentiful. The National Blood Service will be on hand, and diabetes testing will also be available. All proceeds raised by any of the stallholders will go to support charity.

Sunflower Walk

15 members of the club and their family took part in the 5km Sunflower Walk on Sunday, joining more than 50 Lions from in and around Durban who represented Lions. All of us carried a Lions flag, and a large colourful banner was carried. The R30 entry fee for each participant goes to aid the Sunflower Fund.

Special mention must go to the Hilton Lions club, who drove down to Durban with several members to take part.

Thank you to all the club members and family who took part – it was great fun.

Tree planting and visit at Sinakekele

The 2011/2012 Lion International President, Wing Kun Tam, challenged the Lions clubs and members of the world to plant 1 million trees in 2011/2012, as part of the 1 Million Trees Campaign. To kick-off the North Durban club’s involvement in this project, several members visited the Sinakekele Home to plant two paw-paw trees.

While we were there, we also braaied wors rolls for the kids and the adults involved with the Home – the Lions who went along had a great time, and were really moved by the fantastic work done at Sinakekele.
