Glenashley Fun Day

For several years, the club has sold candyfloss and popcorn at the annual Glenashley Junior Primary School Fun Day. This year, we sold more than we ever have before – both the candyfloss and popcorn machines operated nonstop for several hours.

40% of the income from the event is given to the school, as an educational donation from the club.

Donation to Just Us 4 Children World Chef’s Hunger Tour

Just Us 4 Children along with i-Care and Foodbank are organising a large event in conjunction with the World Chefs Hunger Tour. To quote their press release:

“This will entail all the International chefs, walking in their white outfits raising awareness about starvation and the how many children go hungry to Addington Primary School where they will be helping entertain and handing out food parcels to 1000 disadvantaged children and street children. ”

The club was very pleased to be able to donate 50kg of rice and 30kg of maize meal to assist in feeding the kids.

The club gratefully thanks the public and Bagtech International whose generous donations of food and funds at our supermarket collections and directly to the club allow the club to assist with events like this, and to prepare the many food parcels we prepare every month.

Letter to the North Glen News

The following letter was published in the North Glen News of 23 August 2011. The North Glen News is one of the major local publications in Durban North and its surrounds – the club would like to thank the paper for the coverage we regularly receive.

Letter to the Editor

Thank you from North Durban Lions Club

North Durban Lions would like to thank the Management of Pick 'n Pay La Lucia, Pick 'n Pay The Crescent, Umhlanga Spar and Kensington Square Super Spar for allowing them to collect non-perishable food items every month at their stores. They would also like to give a huge thank you to all the customers who purchase these food items in the stores and place them in the Lions collection trolleys. The Lions members then pack all this food into parcels which are distributed mainly to old age pensioners at TAFTA's Ray Hullett House with a few more given to needy families and baby homes.

Without the support of the community and the stores mentioned, North Durban Lions would not be able to fill the 130 parcels that they hand out every month.

Again our sincere thanks

Lion President Kim van Wyk and North Durban Lions Members
